In the dark

(Bringing back the light. Photo by Robin. April 2007)

It’s not a very good photo. I took it through the kitchen window.

So…

Around 9:15 last night, shortly after I posted my petty little rant, the Universe came along and did what I should have: Turned off the television.

Turned off everything else, too.

The power went out due to the blustery winds (sustained winds of 20 mph with gusts up to 45-50 mph).

Seventeen hours and a lot of thawed food later, the power is back on. My freezer and fridge are amazingly inefficient in spite of the fact that no one opened the freezer. The ice cream turned into a milk shake.

I guess that means I’ll be cooking what was in there and refreezing it.

It’s nice to have the power back. I’m waiting a bit to make sure it’s on for good. It’s been on and off a few times in the past few minutes. Once I’m sure, I’m going to do something I’ve been yearning to do all day: Take a shower!

You see, we have a well for our water here in the Bogs. The pump works on electricity. No electricity, no water. We have lots of containers of water stored up for just such an emergency. And buckets of pond water work just fine for flushing the toilets. But we don’t have anything rigged up for showering.

It’ll feel good to be clean again.
