Karma’s October Photo Hunt: Idioms

As easy...

When I first saw Karma’s Photo Hunt theme for October, I thought, “oh, fun!”  I love words, and enjoy playing with them.  I was ready to jump on the bandwagon and join in the fun.  But as the month grew older, I grew no wiser as to what I was going to do with the theme of idioms.  With so much to pick from, I was drawing a blank.

...as...

All of the ideas I had earlier in the month flew right out of my head.  Then M the Younger came over for a weekend visit with a big bag of apples and a recipe for apple pie that he volunteered to make.  For me, the project just became as easy as

...pie!!

I never quite understood what was easy about pie.  I find them difficult to make.  They are, however, easy to eat.  And this particular apple pie was effortless for me since I didn’t have to make it.

While waiting for the pie to bake, I noticed Izzy playing in the dining room.

Izzy's in the bag

I’m sure you know where I’m going with this…

Yep.  You got it.  The cat’s out of the bag!  (In case you missed it, in the bag is another idiom.)

Thanks, Karma.  That was fun, as always.  I’m looking forward to whatever you come up with for the next photo hunt.

Today's view of the pond

It started out rainy here today, but then the sun came along and shooed away the clouds, giving us an almost picture-perfect day.  M the Elder and M the Younger are outside getting things ready for the winter to come.

Say goodbye to the swim platform.

The boats have been put away and the swim platform has been hauled to shore.  When you see them again in my daily pond shots, you will know that winter is over here in the Bogs.  In the meantime, we’re getting ready for ice skating on the pond, sledding down the hillside, and cross-country skiing.  We are officially finished with warm weather activities on and in the pond.

We’re thinking of going to a soccer match in Akron tonight.  Regular readers might recall that M and I are big fans of the Akron Zips men’s soccer team. They are doing well again this year and we haven’t had the time or opportunity to go and watch them play.  It’s going to be cold tonight, with a chance of freezing rain or snow.  We will have dig out the winter gear if we do decide to go.

Berries and dewdrops on the burning bush

That’s it from the Bogs for today.  Thank you for dropping by and joining me in a little fun with idioms.  You still have a few days left if you’d like to participate with your own photos.  Go ahead.  You know you want to.  🙂

  2. That pie DOES look scrumptious!! Now I’m hungry…. 😉 So far, I don’t have anything to submit…. one of these times I’m going to have to kick myself in the pants to get going on it!! You did a great job with your idioms!! 🙂

  3. Caryn says:

Should a piece of the Pie go missing, Robin, ’twas not me… (Heh!!) and I applaud Izzy in her going along with the cat in (out of ) the bag photo’s, she’s a natural poser methinks. 😉 … I waved goodbye to the swimming platform, sad really, as it’s become quite a landmark now.. BUT it will return … the year flows ever onwards, drawing us (sometimes reluctantly) along in it’s wake, until we face another New Year of ‘new’ opportunities and experiences… (why does nearing the end of a year seem to pick up speed?..like going downhill on a bike, without any brakes? Um, mayhap that was just me.. 😉 ) xPenx

    • Robin says:

I’m not sure the pie lasted long enough for you to nick a piece, Pen. lol! You are right about Izzy. She does like to pose for the camera.

It’s not just you. I think the year picks up speed near the end, too. I like your analogy. 🙂

  9. Oh, what a pretty Izzy!

  10. grannydog says:

Fall is my favorite season and you have captured so much of its beauty, outdoors and in the kitchen with the apple pie. I too have always wondered where on earth the “easy as” came from when it comes to making pies. 🙂

  11. bearyweather says:

Oh my gosh … I really want a piece of that pie … it looks sinfully yummy.
(For those of us too far away to share it with you ;-),
… would you like to post the recipe?)

  12. Kathy says:

Reading your post was as easy as…easy as…apple pie! You did a great job with idiom challenge, Robin. Not only do I want your pie, but I also want your photo editing software and you to come visit and show me how to use it. Please?

  13. Coming East says:

Stunning fall pictures, Robin, and love the idiom pictures, too. You are a very clever girl!

  14. How FUN! I guess it depends on the pie… I don’t think I ever made an apple pie?? But there are some no-bake pies that are pretty easy to make 🙂
I absolutely LOVE the second to last picture. That single green tree is still hanging on to summer.

  15. Dana says:

At least you didn’t have a photo for “cat got your tongue”– that might have been a bit disturbing! I LOVE that pic of the burning bush– is that what the plant is actually called? I’ve never heard of it before.

    • Robin says:

That would have been extremely disturbing, Dana. lol! Yes, it is actually called a burning bush. They become a brilliant shade of red in fall, looking almost as if they are on fire.

  16. Sounds like you’re getting tucked in for the winter. The pie looks absolutely delicious! How fortunate you were to catch Izzy in the bag! 🙂

  17. Oooh, that burning bush photo–gosh, the colors are fantastic. And I’m not ready to say goodbye to the swim platform. I must say, I’ve enjoyed my summer there . . .

    • Robin says:

Well, you could visit the platform if you like, Teresita. It’s tucked away in the cattails on the right side of the pond. You will still be able to see it in some of my photos. 🙂

  18. ElizOF says:

Stay warm and bring back some photos. The bog is full of riches… new and old. I love it. 🙂

  19. Hee hee…that is an easy pie for you. Idioms are fun and if you check out YesButs blog (see my blog list for the link), you’ll see them daily. I have tried some in the past so Karma’s photo hunt was fun and easily done.

Like another blogger I follow (Barbara), it only took one idea to spark more of them. Just as the apple pie making did for you.

You are having a much better autumn season than I am. Lovely colors and scenes.

  20. Marianne says:

Great looking apple pie indeed. It must have been really really yummy, Robin.

  21. Karma says:

I’m back, I’m back! I feel so out of the loop. And I am one of the very lucky to have my power and internet services restored in this area. Just getting around now to seeing all the photo hunts. You did a great job with the idioms, Robin. I saw a bit of commenting between you and Kathy – I don’t think you cheated! Besides, my photo hunts aren’t about following rules anyway – it is about giving people ideas for going out with their cameras. That pie does look delcious – even more delicious when someone bakes it for you. If I had to guess about the saying about pie being easy, it might be from colonial times. Pie was a huge part of the daily diet back then. Whatever seasonal foods were available were often baked in a pie, and every mother had a recipe for pie crust. (short lesson from my cooking days at a living history museum! 😉 )

    • Robin says:

Yay, Karma!! So good to see you back! (I know. I just said this in another comment. But it’s true.)

I still don’t think pie is easy. But I guess if you’re making them on a daily basis, perhaps it becomes easy. I think your lessons from your days at the a living history museum are very interesting. Thank you! 🙂

  22. […] who thought she might have cheated a little, presented idioms to do with pies and cats!  No worries Robin.  They are more guidelines than rules, and I am always happy to just inspire […]

  23. Dawn says:

The pie looks AMAZING! And love Izzy in the bag…and out!
