Scattered mind

There is tremendous power in unearthing, in recognizing distracted, scattered mind, the mind which would rather be anywhere but here, and spending some time there, with that mind.  Rather than being an anonymous voice from the dark bossing you around, scattered mind is someone you can sit down and hang out with.

I feel scattered today.  Scattered mind, scattered energy.  It’s mid-February restlessness.  My mind wants to travel.  My feet wouldn’t mind traveling either.  It’s been a while since our last trip.

Since it doesn’t look as though we’ll be traveling anywhere soon, this is a good time to be planning a vacation.  As you might recall, that’s just what M and I have been doing for the past couple of weeks.  We have poured over maps and tour books, made our reservations, and set up an itinerary with plenty of wiggle room.  Sometimes you want to take a detour or change plans.  It’s good to have wiggle room.

Want to guess where we’re going?  I mentioned before that the trip would involve over 3,000 miles of driving if we traveled by car.  Since that’s more time than we want to spend in the car over the course of a two-week trip, we will be making our way north and east by air transportation, and then renting a car to continue our journey.

Some of the places we plan to visit include the Hopewell Rocks on the shore of the Bay of Fundy, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Prince Edward Island, possibly Peggy’s Cove and Halifax, and Acadia National Park.

We’ll be trying to pack a lot into one trip, going from Portland, Maine to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and then back to Maine where we’ll spend a couple of days and nights in Bar Harbor.

The trip is a few months off.  Although it’s nice to dream and plan, we also to have to be here, now, in mid-February.  It’s not such a bad place to be.  It’s sunny, a little warmer (above freezing), and the snow is beginning to melt.  There won’t be too much melting as there is more snow in the forecast tomorrow, followed by a warm-up and rain on Thursday.  The battle for winter continues.

That’s about it from the Bogs for today.  The photos are from the January 7th hike at Quail Hollow.  I may have to start taking new photos soon, but my heart/mind just hasn’t been in the mood for picture taking lately.  I think I’ll go out around sunset and see if the beautiful light of that time of day provides inspiration.  You’re welcome to join me.  Wear boots.  It’s wet and mushy out there.
