Scattered mind

There is tremendous power in unearthing, in recognizing distracted, scattered mind, the mind which would rather be anywhere but here, and spending some time there, with that mind.  Rather than being an anonymous voice from the dark bossing you around, scattered mind is someone you can sit down and hang out with.

~ Jusan Ed Brown

"Fairy lights" added with a texture from Picnik.

I feel scattered today.  Scattered mind, scattered energy.  It’s mid-February restlessness.  My mind wants to travel.  My feet wouldn’t mind traveling either.  It’s been a while since our last trip.

Since it doesn’t look as though we’ll be traveling anywhere soon, this is a good time to be planning a vacation.  As you might recall, that’s just what M and I have been doing for the past couple of weeks.  We have poured over maps and tour books, made our reservations, and set up an itinerary with plenty of wiggle room.  Sometimes you want to take a detour or change plans.  It’s good to have wiggle room.

Want to guess where we’re going?  I mentioned before that the trip would involve over 3,000 miles of driving if we traveled by car.  Since that’s more time than we want to spend in the car over the course of a two-week trip, we will be making our way north and east by air transportation, and then renting a car to continue our journey.

Some of the places we plan to visit include the Hopewell Rocks on the shore of the Bay of Fundy, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, Prince Edward Island, possibly Peggy’s Cove and Halifax, and Acadia National Park.

We’ll be trying to pack a lot into one trip, going from Portland, Maine to New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and then back to Maine where we’ll spend a couple of days and nights in Bar Harbor.

The trip is a few months off.  Although it’s nice to dream and plan, we also to have to be here, now, in mid-February.  It’s not such a bad place to be.  It’s sunny, a little warmer (above freezing), and the snow is beginning to melt.  There won’t be too much melting as there is more snow in the forecast tomorrow, followed by a warm-up and rain on Thursday.  The battle for winter continues.

Sunburst added in Picnik.

That’s about it from the Bogs for today.  The photos are from the January 7th hike at Quail Hollow.  I may have to start taking new photos soon, but my heart/mind just hasn’t been in the mood for picture taking lately.  I think I’ll go out around sunset and see if the beautiful light of that time of day provides inspiration.  You’re welcome to join me.  Wear boots.  It’s wet and mushy out there.

Ack! I’ve always wanted to visit the maritime provinces in Canada, so I can’t wait to hear about your journey and see your photos!

  4. I hope you enjoy that trip – Prince Edward Island is a dream visit for me. Anne of Green Gables made me fall in love. When you go, please look for the Great White Way and take a photo for me!
On a side note – I really admire your Re-Blogging Policy. May I copy and use it on my page? You should be marketing that particular bit of writing. I read a very interesting post by the folks over at MCP Actions today that could use a share as well: http://networkedblogs.com/tUgTV . It might interest you to read it!

  5. Grape vines like those twisted around in one picture were great fun to play on! Looking forward to the next batch. Nothing better than a rain hike.

Oh, your trip sounds wonderful.it makes me want to plan a trip, but we have a lot of things in the air this year and an’t make plans yet.

As I’ve not been to most of those places, I can’t wait to see the photos you’ll take.

I certainly appreciate the scattered feeling…I think it is that feeling that comes over us in the dead of winter…not wanting to wish our lives away we wait patiently for the arrival of spring. Stay warm, breathe, enjoy a cup of hot tea.

Great effects in the photos, Robin. The “sunburst” and “fairy lights” are beautiful. Sounds like a fantastic trip you’re planning. Even though I live in Canada I have yet to visit the eastern provinces. I have relatives living in New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Newfoundland. Maybe one day I’ll have an opportunity to visit them. The west coast is quite spectacular as well. I have been to the west coast. Happy planning, Robin! 🙂

And you will be traveling to some of my favorite places. Though if you haven;t already been to PEI, be warned — it resembles Wisconsin! 🙂

A wonderful journey today as much caught my eye: the circling vine, the lighting in the pic that follows, and the sunbeams in the last one … so thanks for all the treats.

  15. The enhanced photos here are wonderful, Robin!

  16. You have really captured the magic hour with the lighting in all these photos! The light through the trees, on the ground, swirling around the branches–quite nice. The one with the man (hubby?) is especially beautiful.

These photos look a little ghostly! Second one is my favourite.

Your trip sounds wonderful! I’ve been to some of the places you’re planning to visit – the natural beauty on that part of the eastern seaboard is so picturesque – can’t wait to see your photos!

What a fantastic trip you’ve planned! George and I would love to visit those places, too. I’m looking forward to spring, too. It’s supposed to be in the upper 50’s today, but I want it in the 60’s. Think I’ll take a walk, though. Lovely pictures, as always.
