Unfocused

Ballerinas unfocused

The photo challenge for this week is Unfocused.  Unfocused is usually the state of the photographs I take at my granddaughter Emma’s dance recitals.  Every now and then, I find myself liking one or two of the unfocused shots.  (You might want to click on the first photo for a better look at it.)

Ballerinas unfocused II

I like the sense of motion, of dance, that the unfocused photos portray.

And sometimes I just like the subject.  🙂

Today’s view of the pond

It has been lovely here in the Bogs today.

Mostly sunny although occasionally the clouds take over for a little while.  Breezy.  Not too hot.  Not too cold.  Just right.

What’s up, Buttercup?

The mowed meadows are dotted with yellow buttercups and purple violets.

Water iris

The water irises are blooming.

I captured my first dragonfly of the season.  They’ve been back for a few weeks now, but this was the first time I’ve had the opportunity to catch one.

Yesterday’s sunset

That’s about it from the Bogs for today.  Thank you for visiting and taking a short walk around Breezy Acres with me.  If you’re feeling up to another walk, head over to Dana’s place for A Stroll Around the Lake.  You won’t regret it.  Go on, then.  I know you’ll enjoy it.

  1. Those first two shots are amazing – very mesmerizing!! I haven’t seen any dragonflies/damselflies yet, I guess it’s still early around here. Today wouldn’t have been a good day for them to be out, we it’s raining this afternoon – and earlier it was hailing!!

Tremendous effects from those first two shots! (and I just noticed your header image, what a story it presents!)

  3. Sallyann says:

    Beautiful buttercup. 🙂
I popped over to Dana’s for a walk around the lake too. thanks for the directions. 🙂

  4. Dana says:

I enjoy unfocused shots of dancing and/or athletics, too. Sometimes I take photos at Marty’s bike races that make him look like he’s riding at warp speed– a lot more interesting than a perfectly crisp photo would be!

I appreciate the shout out and hope some of your readers will meander around the lake today as well. 🙂

sometimes, we think that the shot was crappy and when we upload it, we see it`s a terrific work of art … love the unfocused shots!!

    • Robin says:

      Thank you, Ellen. 🙂

That’s so true. I’ve had the happen numerous times. I used to delete things right in the camera, but have learned that it’s best to wait and see it on the computer monitor first. As your mentioned, sometimes those awful shots turn out to be something more.

I love your out of focus dance … and that dragonfly looks huge. My Spring has not caught up with yours, yet … however, we finally have some greens in the woods … it is like they sprouted up overnight.

  7. Karma says:

Love both your unfocused and focused today! The ballerinas are really neat. I’ve not seen the dragonflies yet this year, so that was pretty cool too.

  8. Wow, Robin, those dancing images are amazing. And I can’t believe how green everything is there. Looks so lush. Happy Mother’s Day this weekend, my friend.
    Hugs,
    Kathy

  9. a chameleon dragonfly.love it. not to mention picture two which is so lovely.

I wonder if Emma will continue ballet for as long as my daughter Hayley? Hayley started at age six, and will be taking another exam next month, at age 24! I like your unfocused shots, and could very clearly see what the subject of the first photo was, even before you explained. 🙂

    • Robin says:

      Thanks, Joanne. 🙂

I don’t know if she’ll keep dancing or not, but if she does, it’s going to cost her parents a fortune in costumes and dance lessons. I can’t believe how expensive everything is these days.

  11. the first one’s a home run again! So ephemeral!

  12. wow…two walks in one day…yours and Dana’s …. ahhhh, nice and relaxed now…. : )

Fabulous set of shots. The dragonfly is exquisite – but I do love those blurred ballet dancers. Well done.

  15. TBM says:

Great shots and I’m jealous that you have blue skies.

  16. aFrankAngle says:

Wonderful unfocused ballerinas. But now you have put the thought of over 70,000 people singing about a buttercup in my head.

    • Robin says:

lol! Thanks, Frank. Now I’ll be singing that all day… (I don’t mind. It’s one of my favorite songs. Reminds me of summer, the beach, and transistor radios.)

      • aFrankAngle says:

To top it off, I’ve been to a game in Madison, Wisconsin, …. and the crowd erupts to sing this! It caught me by surprise … but a pleasant one!

  17. mobius faith says:

Love those unfocused shots. Well done.

  18. Norm says:

So many great shots I couldn’t pick a favourite…. you just keep getting better and better. Okay – shout out for the sunset…. reminds me of ‘cordouroy sky’.

  19. eof737 says:

They look like dancing ethereal angels… I love that shot. 🙂

  20. Tammy says:

I agree with eof737, ethereal angels. Your photos are just beautiful.

Hi Robin. The dragonfly on the cedar is stunning. If you would like some other unfocused photos, I have hundreds I could give you, but none anywhere near as beautiful as yours! Jane

    • Robin says:

lol, Jane! That’s okay. I have hundreds of unfocused photos too. And add to my collection every time I go out with my camera. 😉

      Thank you. 🙂

  23. Kathy says:

“Unfocused” engages our imaginations. The first three shots make me think anything is possible. The rest of the shots show what can be revealed…
