Today’s view of the pond

The snow is flying on this cold Sunday in March, and I’m just settling back in at home after spending the weekend with my granddaughters and their parents.  It was lovely, and one of my favorite ways to spend a weekend.

Mother Nature’s Christmas decorations

Yesterday afternoon, as the sun hit the Christmas decorations adorning the yard and home of the neighbor across the street, the sparkle and shimmer reminded me of the morning frost at sunrise.  I delighted in the idea that Christmas decorations are a way of imitating Mother Nature’s glitz and glam.  You might think I was the first person to think of this idea.  You’d be wrong, of course, but you might think it based on how delighted I was with the thought. Last night while I was sleeping the pond, the woods, and the meadows disappeared into mystical, magical fog, altering the landscape and moving the boundaries.  When I walked around the pond and into the woods this morning, I, too, vanished into the mist, wandering in a world that was familiarly unfamiliar.

Dear Mom

A sunflower for remembrance.

Well, it’s been three years now since you died.  This is probably going to be the last year I’ll write to you on the date of your death.  From now on, I’d rather celebrate the anniversary of your birth, and your life.  I think of you often, and I’d rather not dwell on the cancer, the hospice room, and the sadness.  I don’t believe you would have wanted that from any of us.  I will, however, always remember those beautiful sunflowers.
