I was looking at National Geographic’s Top Ten Stories of 2006 (because I’m such a geek) and came across this one: Monster Rabbit Stalks U.K Village (But no sign of Wallace and Gromit).

I can’t help it. I laughed. And laughed. Look at the size of that rabbit! The makers of the Wallace and Gromit movie The Curse of the Were-Rabbit were on to something.

Who knew such giant rabbits existed? I didn’t. Apparently the giant rabbits are bred for their meat. That rabbit to the left would make a lot of rabbit stew, that’s for sure. Having a friend who is a bit rabbitty, I think I’ll take a pass on any rabbit stew and stick with the vegetarian dishes.

In other weird news, this is why I loved San Francisco so much: Ho Ho Ho’s and Plenty of Bad Santas. I think every city should have a Santacon. Just think of how much fun it would be to see hundreds of Santas parading around town.

It’s raining here today, very gloomy looking outside. I’m using it as a good excuse to rest and relax. Maybe I’ll work on the Christmas cards today. Or read a good book. Or a little of both. Or maybe I’ll do nothing at all.

Recently read: Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. Very interesting book. I had a hard time putting it down. I’m not good at doing book reviews (I either like a book or I don’t and can’t really explain why), but I do highly recommend it.

Currently reading: Mind candy. I’m reading Nora Robert’s Circle Trilogy. It’s easy and fast reading that doesn’t require much thought. Sometimes I need a book or two like that in between the more thought-provoking books. I finished the first book in the trilogy (Morrigan’s Cross) and I’m sailing through the second (Dance of the Gods).

Currently craving: A salad from the Salad Stop. I had one yesterday so I’ll have to rein in that craving and have some leftovers from last night’s dinner (ratatouille bake) for lunch instead.

Current pet peeve: The whole Christmas thing, meaning the blatant consumerism. I think next year I’m going to participate in Adbuster’s Buy Nothing Christmas. It’s tempting.

We’re heading back to the Bogs for Christmas so we can spend it with our sons, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. We’ll put up the tree this year, unlike the year (2004) we didn’t put it up. I had a lot of fun that year. No tree, no decorations except for one: We turned on the lava lamp and called it the Christmas lava lamp, piling the presents around the lamp. A little goes a long way around a lava lamp.

Ah well, just a few more weeks and the holidaze will be over for another year. I have to admit that I am looking forward to seeing Christmas through the eyes of my granddaughter. Children tend to make these things a little more magical.

I sometimes think we expect too much of Christmas Day. We try to crowd into it the long arrears of kindliness and humanity of the whole year. As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time, all through the year.
