Goodbye Nova Scotia

Sunrise this morning. South Harbor. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
M and I left the Cape Breton Highlands of Nova Scotia this morning. I didn’t want to leave. I love it there. Love it. I want to live there, and we were told by some of the very friendly folks we met there that we were welcome and they’d take care of us if we did decide to relocate.
Sunrise this morning — we woke up to this view (around 4:30am Atlantic time) every morning at the cottage we stayed in while in Cape Breton Highlands of Nova Scotia. (We could see this without getting out of bed!)
Alas, we couldn’t stay with so much more planned for our vacation so we left early this morning and we’re now back in New Brunswick just for the night. We’ll be the dazed and confused people up at 4:45 tomorrow morning to see the Tidal Bore on the Petitcodiac River in Moncton.
Goodbye Cape Breton Moose…
We saw a few moose, some eagles, a crow eating a snake for breakfast (this morning), more of those cute little red squirrels, loons, and I can’t remember what all else right now. My brain and body are exhausted.
Apologies to Jane and Joss for not getting in touch. We found out upon crossing the border between the U.S. and Canada that our cell phones don’t work in Canada. Our time in Nova Scotia was spent unplugged — no phone, no internet. Add to that packed days (lots of hiking) and there just hasn’t been enough time. I’m amazed at how fast time has been flying by, even with that lost hour when we went from Eastern Time to Atlantic Time early in our trip.
We’re on our way to Maine tomorrow (another 6 hours or so in the car — ugghh!). I’m not looking forward to the car ride, but can’t wait to explore Acadia National Park.
I’m off to bed. We have that early wake-up call tomorrow (M really wants to see the Tidal Bore and since I woke him up to see the magnificent sunrises in South Harbor, the least I can do is get up to see the Tidal Bore), and the car trip. Hard to believe all that sitting can make one so tired. At least we got in a decent hike this morning before we hit the road.

Life in the Bogs

Hi Jane. Yes, we have traveled a lot of miles. It’s a little insane, really. Too much car time, but it seems worth it so far. 🙂
I didn’t want to leave Nova Scotia when I was there 40 years ago either. Gorgeous place. Wonder what is is like in winter, though?
I wonder that too, Deborah. I meant to ask while we were there, but forgot. I already live in a place that gets pretty cold and we usually get 100 or so inches of snow each winter so I’m wondering if it could be worse… 😉

How funny…as soon as I clapped eyes on that sunrise, I thought “I wouldn’t want to leave there”, and that’s what you said! You could always change your blog name to “Life in Nova Scotia”…

Magnificent sunrise photos over the water, especially the mirror image in the first; we never have that flat horizon in western PA!
We don’t have that in NE Ohio either, Lynn. Ah well… we do have other things… 🙂

We left early, Frank, so the sunrise was an appropriate closing to Nova Scotia (even if it was afternoon by the time we finally left Nova Scotia — long drive time, plus a morning hike). 🙂

Goodness, Robin, that sunrise might be the most stunning I have ever seen. The orange glow is amazing. It almost looks like the water was on fire.

absolutely stunning sunrise. Nova Scotia is a beautiful province. So glad you got to see a moose in Cape Breton. that doesn’t always happen, Hey, you can meet me any old time but seeing a moose – ah, that is magical. Safe travels home. Who knows? Maybe next year we will stop in to see you!
