76: Shhhh…

(A tree in San Diego.)

It’s 3:00 in the morning on my birthday, and I’m trying to be (relatively) quiet.  I’m working on the laundry.  I figure if I can’t sleep, I might as well be productive.

(Mission Bay trees.)

I’d rather be sleeping.  To be honest, I’m feeling pretty miserable.  Sleep is not possible because I’m dealing with the consequences of the prep.  I’m exhausted.  And hungry.  And exhausted.

(Balloons.)

I figure I can sit here and have a whinge or I can be grateful.  I’m alive, I’m well (except for the purposely induced problem), and I have another year to celebrate.

(Kite in tree.)

I truly am grateful.  My life is filled with blessings and gifts of all kinds.  Sometimes I don’t always recognize them as gifts.  Right now is a good example.

(A burst of sunlight in the tree tops.)

Instead of sleeping, I’m counting my blessings.  Instead of sleeping, I’m getting my blog post for the day written up and posted.  Instead of sleeping, I’m looking at bright, sunshiny pictures.

I have time now to gather my thoughts, to catch up on email and other blogs, and to look at flowers.  I have time to sort of relax and just enjoy the quiet.

I’m not sure when I’ll fit in my outdoor time today.  Perhaps before I go to the doc’s place for the birthday fun.  I’m pretty sure I’ll want to nap this afternoon.  I know!  M and I can go sledding this evening if I’m up for it.  That will be a fine and fun way to spend time outdoors, don’t you think?

So.  What would you be doing with your time if you had to stay up all night?  Something quiet?  Something fun?  A little of both?

    thx for sharing~

I don’t like when that happens either. For some reason, I don’t like to turn the lights on in the middle of the night, so I sit or walk around in the dark. Or I just toss and turn in bed all night. Although lately, I’ve been good at doing a meditation and bring awareness to what is going on in my body.

    Love the warm pictures!

I don’t like turning on lights in the middle of the night either, Marianne. I made an exception with the computer monitor that night, though. Usually I read when I’m up like that.

Happy Birthday – I hope you get to do something fun later or another day – you deserve it!
If I was up at 3:00 in the morning I’d probably be doing the same – blogging, scrolling through photo archives, emailing, looking at Facebook. Maybe I’d try to be ready for some spectacular sunrise pictures? Though I’m normally driving to work at sunrise at this time of the year.
Hope all went well for you today.

  8. Robin, you should have made that doc’s appointment for yesterday, or tomorrow! Happy, happy birthday to you!!! I do hope you are up to the sledding with M tonight, that sounds like fun.

Only a couple of weeks ago I was up nearly the whole night, due to my daughters very large 18th birthday party, held at home. (She’s a free-spirited Sagittarius, like you, and a party girl!) I ended up at the computer, which was fine, until the kids realised I was there and started coming in for a chat! Wasn’t the party more of a distraction, than disturbing me??

If I wasn’t sleeping and there wasn’t a party going on in my home, I’d be, well, yep…at the computer!

Have a wonderful, day (after the doctor’s are finished with!) xxx

      Joanne: Thank you. 🙂

I took the birthday appointment because it was the only one available until after the first of the year (when my insurance changes and won’t cover as much). I decided the best way to approach a birthday appointment of that kind was to think of it as a gift to myself in my ongoing project to be the healthiest me I can be. 🙂

I only just found this – sorry you had a bad night, but I’m glad to hear things went well. I hope you’re out sledding now, or napping 😉 .

If I was up at 3am I’d probably be doing some laundry and then playing games on the pc.

  11. Marianne says:

Happy Birthday Robin. Hope all is well.

You always have such a positive attitude! If I had to stay up all night I don’t think I’d do a single productive thing 🙂 Happy belated birthday!!!

    Happy birthday!!

Sledding sounds fun — hopefully you feel up to it.

Belated Birthday wishes, Robin, and sledding does sound like fun, I don’t think I got round to it as a child, but I know my brothers did, ‘cos they used to use my dolls pram…With much wailing from me!!
When I have stayed up all night it’s always been tied with sad things, my father in law’s when he was ill, and recently for Bess, when we brought her back from the vets…I sat in a chair and watched over her, wondering and wailing a bit (see I haven’t changed !!) ‘cos it seemed best to have her downstairs if she needed to go out…and I just wanted to be near her…
BUT I must admit, if I can’t sleep, no lights, on , just wander and drink cold milk…and think a lot… and I agree with everyone, you are so positive it ‘s uplifting… xPenx

and the photo’s are wonderful….(forgot to add that…sheesh!!)

  16. I was just introduced to your site by Marianne Aldcroft-Irvine. She has been doing a 100 day Gratitude Challenge and for the past few days I have been forgetting to be grateful and technological problems have gotten me stressed out. Then I found your site with such lovely photos, such a reminder of how beautiful nature is, every bit of it, and how much we really do have to be grateful for. Thank you.

    • Robin says:

Hi Dr. Erica! Nice to meet you. 🙂

I’ve been following some of Marianne’s 100 day Gratitude Challenge and admire her spirit. I was tempted to join her but I already have one challenge going — one that has the side-effect of gratitude — so I decided not to overload my plate (especially this time of year!).

Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. I look forward to returning the visit soon.
