Fancy a short walk around the pond?

Bundle up.  It’s cold here in the Bogs today.  The cold is especially shocking after the weekend warm-up.  You’ll need a hat and gloves along with a nice, warm coat or jacket and your wellies.  It’s very wet and muddy out there.  Boggy, even.

Be careful walking down the big hill.  The ground is so saturated with water that it feels like it might float away and carry you right down to the pond.

The sun has tried to make an occasional appearance, but the clouds seem to be winning so far.

While you walk around a bit, I’ll tell you a secret.  It’s not really a secret, but it’s sort of a secret.

Someone very special to me is having a birthday this week.  Since that someone special doesn’t want to be on the blog or have me blabbing about their birthday, I can’t give you anymore details than that.

Because it is someone special, I decided to make something special and have been engaged in that little project for a good part of the day.  It needs to be finished today because I want to give it to my someone special a little early.  It will be more useful that way.

What this means is that our walk will have to be a short one today.  For me, at least, it will have to be short.  You are welcome to linger if you like.  You probably want to stay around the pond and the meadows.  The woods are flooded right now and even if you don’t end up sliding in the mud down the hill (and into the swollen creek), the going is rough.  Shoes get stuck in the kind of mud that’s present in the woods today.  Bodies fall, slipping and sliding in the mud and on the decaying leaves.  Chance it if you like.  Perhaps it’s not as bad as it looks.  Just keep your distance from the creek.  The current looks pretty strong.
