Fancy a short walk around the pond?

Rippled Reflection

Bundle up.  It’s cold here in the Bogs today.  The cold is especially shocking after the weekend warm-up.  You’ll need a hat and gloves along with a nice, warm coat or jacket and your wellies.  It’s very wet and muddy out there.  Boggy, even.

Be careful walking down the big hill.  The ground is so saturated with water that it feels like it might float away and carry you right down to the pond.

The sun has tried to make an occasional appearance, but the clouds seem to be winning so far.

While you walk around a bit, I’ll tell you a secret.  It’s not really a secret, but it’s sort of a secret.

Someone very special to me is having a birthday this week.  Since that someone special doesn’t want to be on the blog or have me blabbing about their birthday, I can’t give you anymore details than that.

January 2013 017a

Because it is someone special, I decided to make something special and have been engaged in that little project for a good part of the day.  It needs to be finished today because I want to give it to my someone special a little early.  It will be more useful that way.

What this means is that our walk will have to be a short one today.  For me, at least, it will have to be short.  You are welcome to linger if you like.  You probably want to stay around the pond and the meadows.  The woods are flooded right now and even if you don’t end up sliding in the mud down the hill (and into the swollen creek), the going is rough.  Shoes get stuck in the kind of mud that’s present in the woods today.  Bodies fall, slipping and sliding in the mud and on the decaying leaves.  Chance it if you like.  Perhaps it’s not as bad as it looks.  Just keep your distance from the creek.  The current looks pretty strong.

Thank you for stopping by.  Have a delightful day, evening, night… wherever and whenever you are on the spectrum of time.  🙂

  1. Gosh, I love that first image of the tree reflected in the pond. Totally cool. Happy birthday to your someone special. Bet it’s M!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

  2. As my former ecology teacher said, “You haven’t lived until you’ve jumped on a bog.” Your photos make my memory of bogs all the sweeter.

  3. I need some wellies – the Keens with the big rubber pumpers aren’t helping.
Soft as bunny fur with that 3rd one – the 4th one is really striking. So hard to pick favorites: the graceful curve, the popcorn like flowers? The color contrast of the last one?
Ah – that crowd of lines and bright punctuation marks of the 5th one!

  4. Happy birthday someone! And I lingered a bit at the pond. Thanks for the invite. 😉

Another delightful walk with you, Robin. The reflections in the pond were stunning. How wonderful that you’re someone special is having a birthday even though he/she refuses to let you blab about it to the world. (I like that you sort of snuck it in, anyway.) Isn’t it cold after our warm spell? I dug up some pants that had liners; otherwise my legs would have frozen in jeans.

Thanks, Kathy. 🙂 I probably shouldn’t have sort of snuck it in, but I couldn’t resist. I sort of snuck it in when we went out for dinner, too, so that someone got a free slice of birthday cake. Since there was no big song and dance to go with it (it was quite casually and quietly done), someone appreciated it. (All this talk of “someone” is confusing. lol!)

The cold has really settled in now. I had to dig out my pants with liners, too. It’s too cold without them.

  6. Happy birthday to that someone special… 😀

I love the play on light in these photos. I have a soft spot for beauty berry so I really like that one.

  17. Especially love the second picture, reminds me of Japanese art. Cold here in KY too, snow on the ground.

  18. Loved photos #s 5, 7 and 8 – but then again, I love anything set off by blue! Hope your special someone has a special birthday and surprise! Wonderful quote…

  19. Joanne says:

Having a walk around Breezy Acres is always a fabulous way to begin the day Robin. I hope the birthday is wonderful and your special surprise birthday present is a real hit (I’m sure it will be!) 🙂

    • Robin says:

Thank you, Joanne. 🙂 I can tell you what the surprise was now that it’s been given. It was something simple. A handmade card. He said it was the best birthday card he’s ever received. 😀

  20. I hope the birthday went well!! 😉 I’m a little behind on my reading!!

    • Robin says:

Thanks, Holly. 🙂 Don’t bother catching up. It’s too much time and trouble. Besides, I don’t think you missed anything important. Just start from today.
