Blackout

Camping in the living room

We had a power outage last night.  It was around 5:30pm or so.  I was preparing dinner and out went the lights, the heat, the water.  Thank goodness we have a gas stovetop.  Dinner went on as usual with the exception of having to light the burners manually.

217: Sometimes she roars

(Apple blossom.)

Mother Nature roared through here beginning around 2:00 this morning.  Literally roared.  And howled, moaned, screeched, and an assortment of other noises.  The news reports are that we had sustained winds of 30-40 mph, with gusts up to 69 mph (close to hurricane force).  Right now our winds are around 22 mph with gusts up to 41 mph.

Rainy day

(Today’s view of the pond.)

Another rainy day here in the Bogs.  I’m not complaining.  Rain is good.  Unless you’ve had too much rain, which we haven’t.  So, rain is good.

It’s one of those days when all I want to do is go back to bed or curl up somewhere with a good book.  Rainy days just aren’t ambitious, motivating days for me.  I interpret them as nature’s way of saying:  Rest, relax, stay warm and dry.

But I do have things I need to get done today.  I’m having a small lunch party tomorrow and a little cleaning is in order.  I’ll probably procrastinate for much of the morning and then run around here like a madwoman later, trying to get everything done at once.

Ah well… it’s more fun that way.  😉

I watched some of last night’s debate.  It got a bit boring after a while, with those guys saying pretty much the same things over and over.  I do wish they’d both done a better job of answering that last, “Zen-like,” question.  It would have been nice to hear something other than the usual rhetoric.

I don’t know which television attack ads you all are seeing, but there’s one McCain ad called Dangerous that’s been playing heavily here in Ohio that seems racist and sexist to me.  But that could just be me reading too much into it.  I’d still rather see ads that outline what the candidate plans to do rather than the mudslinging variety that continues to be aired so heavily.

I finally got around to watching the latest SNL skit (the Biden-Palin debate).  Tina Fey is brilliant.

In the midst of writing this post, the power went out.  I’m becoming increasingly unhappy with Ohio Edison.  After the loss of all that food back in September, and the subsequent work and money spent on replenishing some of it, I would have been (more than) extremely angry with another lengthy power outage.  As it is, I’m not happy about this short one (about an hour).

One way they could go about creating jobs during these hard economic times would be to start working on our infrastructure.  Get those flippin’ power lines underground so we don’t have outages every time the wind blows or when the rain and snow fall.  Hell, we’ve been known to have outages on still, sunny days.

I suppose I ought to be thankful that we even have electrical power.  I’m spoiled.  That’s all there is to it.
