On this first day of Autumn

Looking out over the meadows on the first day of Autumn

Rains came overnight, but this morning the clouds parted and the sun came out in time to welcome the Spirit of Autumn to the realm of Breezy Acres.  Yellows are rolling across the meadows and reds are starting to color the tips of the maple leaves.  The crows continue to meet in the woods for their Caw Conference, the Blue Jays trying to imitate them. Late in the day, storm clouds and rain returned, but just before the rain fell, the colors around the pond swelled and popped, and a painting of Autumn spread out across the land.

Retreat

Hawk Moth. (Can you see him? Just to the left and above the thistle.)

Day 1.  Today I saw a hawk moth in the wildflower meadow.  It’s the first time I’ve seen one here.  His little wings were moving so fast that it was impossible to capture anything other than a blur.

Some flowers on a hot day

Today seems like a good day to take a short walk  back through time and to the Cleveland Botanical Garden.  I still have quite a few orchid photos left from Orchid Mania that I need to sort through, and I started to do just that prior to going off on our Canadian adventures.  I found this post tucked away, waiting for me to do something with it.

Pink Martini

M and I went up to Cleveland last night for a concert.  Pink Martini played at the State Theater, and wow’d us with their eclectic, retro and multilingual mix of music.  Their lead singer, China Forbes, is recovering from an injury to and surgery on her vocal cords.  Storm Large is standing in for her on their current tour.  If you’re unfamiliar with the music of Pink Martini, you can listen and watch here.  CoolCleveland.com has a short article about the band here.  As a little homage to the band and as a reminder of a fun evening, I played around with some pink rhododendron blossoms in a martini glass this morning.  (What?  You were expecting the Tuca Tuca?  Oú est ma tête?)
