It’s a lovely day

And so it is. A lovely day. It’s a bit nippy out there (in the upper 30’s), but the sun is shining and the clouds are puffy and white (as opposed to the dark gray clouds that have been hanging around the past few days).

Spring might come to the Bogs after all.

The geese seem to think so. They’ve been trying to gather in and around the pond. However, M was out this past weekend setting up the anti-geese defenses (fishing line and shiny CD’s — someone has to put those old AOL free discs to use). Some of the geese land in the pond, try to get to shore, and after a few tries and failures, leave. Some just fly over, honking loudly as if berating us for not making the pond more hospitable for them.

I was up at 5:00 this morning in preparation for getting up at 3:00 tomorrow morning. Our flight to San Diego leaves at 6:00am. Having been sleeping in until around 8:00 or so for the past few months, I’d forgotten how much day there is when you get up early in the morning. It’s amazing how much I’ve accomplished and it’s not even noon yet.

I saw the doc yesterday regarding my back. She didn’t tell me anything I don’t already know (arthritis, pretty bad for someone as young as I am — did she say YOUNG? — blah, blah, blah). An MRI would show the other things I already know (stenosis, etc., etc.). I’ll be going back in July for my 50th birthday physical (a little early, but that’s ok — might as well get it over with). We’ll discuss long-term options for dealing with the pain then. In the meantime, I’ll keep doing what I’ve been doing (exercising, eating healthy, etc.) and hope that keeps me upright, walking, and out of pain or in bearable pain if I must be in pain at all.

I firmly believe exercise makes all the difference. The combination of walking, strength training, and yoga have worked well as long as I did the work. It was taking a few days off for the flu that got me into this current mess. But I’m amazed at how quickly (within a week) I’m starting to bounce back by slowly getting back into my exercise routine.

I’d rather exercise than be on drugs, that’s for sure.

In the meantime, I do have pain meds if I need them for severe pain. I’m hoping I won’t need them. Life is better when I’m not in a drugged-up haze. It’s good to know I have them for this trip. I’m a little worried all that sitting (during the five hour flight) might be brutally painful. At least I’ll have some relief if that turns out to be the case.

I’m not NaBloPoMo’ing this month, but expect I’ll be posting when I can while we’re away. It’s easier for me to keep up with our travels if I post as we go along. Otherwise, I get so far behind that I give up.
