24: Full day

I was up with the sun this morning.  I missed our first frost, having slept through it, but made it out there for today’s frost which is our second of the season.

When I rolled out of bed, the fog was heading towards the right of the pond, spreading out over the neighbors’ lawns and properties, staying close to the ground.  About an hour or so later, a slight breeze took the fog in the opposite direction.  It was cool to watch the variety of fog formations.  There are times when it looks as though it is dancing over the water.

The camera didn’t capture it well but there were a variety of colors in the fog at this point.  I’m not sure if it was a rainbow effect or if the colors were being picked up from the trees.  Whatever the case, it was beautiful.

M and I were up early this morning because we attended a CPR class.  It was on our list of things we should learn how to do, ahead of such activities as surf lessons and hot air balloon rides.  I hope to never have to use it but I’m now certified and at least have some idea of what I’m doing if the occasion should arise.  Because we live out in the country and it could take a while for help to arrive, learning CPR seemed like a good idea.

I should warn anyone in need of CPR:  I’m very vigorous in my compressions.  I somehow managed to take the skin right off the bottom of my hand doing practice compressions on the dummy.  It’s painful, but only if I move my left hand.  The dummy, by the way, survived my compressions and our use of the practice AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

After our class we met up with a friend for a tasty lunch at nearby Mexican restaurant, and then M and I set out for the apple orchard near where we live.  It was a perfect apple-picking day and there were plenty of families out there doing just that.  M and I opted to select our apples from the orchard market since we wanted a big variety of them for eating and for making applesauce.  We also picked up three gallons of apple cider.  M will be turning two gallons of it into hard cider.  The rest is for us to enjoy as is.

I went out for another walk after we returned home.  This time I went off the main road and took one of the side roads just to enjoy some different scenery.  I don’t know if it was the sunlight or the color of the leaves or both, but some of the trees looked as though they were ablaze.

Isn’t the color amazing?  And how about that sky?  Clear, blue, and incredible.

It was a lovely day, all in all.  I’m on my way back outside for a little while to enjoy what’s left of it.  It looks like it will be a good evening to relax on the dock and watch the sunset.
