Busy playing in the snow

Yay! It is incredibly beautiful. I wish you could be here to see it.
The skiing didn’t turn out as planned yesterday. I went up to the Holden Arboretum, put on my skis, swooshed in the tracks for about five minutes, and fell down. The fall normally wouldn’t have bothered me, but I started out with some aches and pains and, to be honest, I was a little embarrassed about the fall. Well, not the fall so much as the fact that I could not get back up. I didn’t ski much last year (only once, I think). I am out of practice, and completely forgot the lesson on how to get back up without taking off my skis. I will be practicing that today. I will also be practicing how to take off my skis as it seems I’ve forgotten how to do that, too.
At least four people stopped to help as I struggled and struggled to get up yesterday. I turned down the offers of help (silly me!), until I finally had to take off my skis (even that was a struggle!). I gave up. I took the skis back to the car, wiped them down, put them away, and went for a hike instead. I don’t normally turn down help or give up so easily. I was having one of those poor-attitude days. Truthfully, I didn’t really want to ski. I wanted to hike. Silly me. I should have listened to myself and just gone for the hike, forgetting about the skis.
Time for me to go back outside. It’s too beautiful to waste any of the daylight. If it clears up, as it did last night (did you see that big, gorgeous moon?), the snow will look lovely in the moonlight. I’ll be back soon with photos from the hike and from today. Thanks for visiting. I hope you’re finding time to play this weekend, too. 🙂
Be good, be kind, be loving, just Be. 🙂
My spouse-ling says, “A Robin took a photo of a cardinal and a blue jay?” Funny, he thinks he is. Ski when you dare to fly—hike when you want to be grounded. Thanks for the beauty.
I think it’s funny, too, eM. 😀 I like your suggestion of skiing when I dare to fly and hiking when I want to be grounded. It is spot on. Thank you. 🙂
Wonderful images. The snow is so beautiful. I spent all morning playing in it. 🙂
Thank you, Terry. Me too. And the afternoon. It’s so good to have a proper winter again. 🙂
“proper winter” – darn tootin’ right. It feels normal again. 😉
We’ll be having a bit of snow-fun ourselves, in the morning! 😀
Hope you and your Angel are building a snowman or two, Marie. 🙂
Gosh, you cold weather folks have the most beautiful birds. Thanks for sharing!
I suspect that’s to make up for the cold and gray days, Tammy. It’s always nice to see those spots of color outside once the world has turned white & gray. 🙂
Your photos of the cardinal and the blue jay are exceptional. My sincere congratulations!
Sorry to hear you had trouble skiing (I can imagine how embarrassing it must’ve been when you couldn’t even get up!), but hey you do so well with walking …I’d suggest you just forget about skiing for a while.
Thank you, Rosie. 🙂 I did manage to ski yesterday and I enjoyed it. No falls, although I was hoping to get in some practice with the getting up part. I’m sure I’ll get the opportunity at least once or twice before the winter is over.
I don’t even need to ask, I’m sure you enjoyed your hike. 🙂
The snow really shows off the colours on the birds beautifully doesn’t it. 🙂
You’re right, Sallyann. I enjoyed it very much. 😀
I’m with Rosie on this – great pics of the blue jay and cardinal (two birds we don’t get here in the UK, so it makes it all the more special to see them photographed by the wondrous Robin! 🙂 ) And I’m sorry about your skiing… don’t worry, it’ll come together when the time’s right for it.
Have a very happy new year, Robin. Hugs.
Thank you, Val. Happy New Year and Hugs to you, too! 🙂
There’s just something about pics of cardinals in the snow. 🙂 … and thanks for the calm walk today because I need it.
You’re welcome, Frank. I’m glad you enjoyed it and that it brought you a sense of calm. 🙂
LOVE your cardinal shot! It is wonderful. Turns out, I don’t need to be in Ohio to see a good amount of snow. We got about 6″ inches yesterday that I had no idea was coming! I have no idea why I didn’t check the forecast yesterday. I’ve got a story to go with it as well, maybe later today on the blog. Hope your aches and pains are feeling better today.
Thank you, Karma. Glad you got your snow. 🙂
That red cardinal picture is heart stopping. Simply heart stopping. You need to have in framed and sell it, or give it away to six people next Christmas. You have more snow than we do!! Enjoy the white stuff and enjoy your play. I enjoyed the best walk outside yesterday and met two neighbors and had good conversations in the brisk late afternoon.
I love that idea, Kathy! The giving away part, I mean. 🙂
Thank you for the snowy pictures of the Holden Arboretum. It’s time for me to get back out there. It’s been a few months, and I only live 20 minutes away.
I’m glad you enjoyed them, Carolyn, and hope you got over to the arboretum before the thaw started. The snow is really beautiful. Or was. 🙂
