A lovely weekend

M and I talked about going up to Cleveland for the Ingenuity Festival, but decided we had too much to do to take the hour trip up (and hour trip back). Maybe next year we’ll make it.
So, on Saturday, we spent a good part of the day running errands and getting things done around the house and garden. But in the late afternoon, we decided we’d had enough and needed to spend at least part of the day doing something fun. We put our bikes on the bike rack (on the car), and took off for a bike ride on the Towpath Trail followed by a stop in Akron for a beer and some dinner.
We rode a little over 9 miles. Not an exceptional amount. That’s pretty much our minimum lately, but as it was late in the day, that was good enough. The new comfort seat has made a little bit of a difference. Next time out I’m hoping to push it to 15 miles or so.
When we finished our ride, we stopped off at 69 Taps, our favorite Akron bar. (Yes, they do have 69 taps.) Because the day was so gorgeous, we sat out on the patio, enjoying the breeze, the sunshine, and the clouds.
A sun dog appeared, giving me a chance to try out a filter. I can’t screw anything on to my camera so I had to hold it in front of the lens.
These are not great comparisons because they’re taken at different distances, but the photos taken with the filter right after that first shot are blurry. It took me a few tries to get the filter in the right position. I don’t think I’ll be using it much. Purple skies are pretty, but I need a third hand if I’m going to shoot through the filter without a tripod.
We went to The Lockview for dinner. We had soup and grilled cheese sandwiches of course. Why else go to The Lockview? Their main focus is on gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. The sandwiches are served with Goldfish (crackers). There are Pop-Tarts for dessert (if you have room for dessert, which I never do).
After dinner we took a little stroll by the canal to walk off those grilled cheese sandwiches.
We left Akron after our walk, and arrived home at sunset…
…where we sat outside, playing with bubbles and warming up by a fire.
Today has been a work day. Although it’s been gorgeous — perfect hiking and biking weather — we just had too much to do to take off. I’ll be happy to see an end to the harvest season. I’ll have more time to play once all the food for winter has been put up.
I reckon that’s it from the Bogs on this busy but delightful Sunday. Thanks for visiting. I hope you got a chance to get outside and enjoy some beautiful weather this weekend.
Today’s joys: A bucketful of tomatoes; a peck of peppers; a beautiful, blue sky; ice cream from New Baltimore; pierogies for breakfast; hibiscus tea; a walk around the pond.
I like grilled cheese sammiches. I might have to make me a trip to Akron.
The Lockview is the place to go if you like a good grilled cheese, Osh. 🙂
Just the perfectest of weekends!
Yes, it was, Bo. 🙂
sky dragons and sun dogs – it doesn’t get any better than this. Well done.
You’re right, Terry. It doesn’t. 🙂 Thank you.
glad you had a lovely weekend & even lovelier photographs to share with us all x
Thanks, Chloe. 🙂
We had beautiful weather here all weekend too Robin, and I spent time outdoors and also with my daughters. Bubbles by the campfire sounds like a lot of fun, and I especially like the silhouette of the bubble blower! 🙂
Thank you, Joanne. The bubble blower thanks you too. (Now that he knows he was on the blog…lol!)
Lol, but his identity still remains a secret… 🙂
Sounds like a wonderful weekend – even the Work Parts!
(Chilly enough this morning for oatmeal…I love it!)
I’m loving it too, Marie. 🙂
We had sun dogs too!
Yay!! 🙂
really lovely … I hear you feeling the autmn coming … while I´m smelling spring in the air …
Thanks, Ellen. 🙂
Tomato joy to you, too! It’s become cold (50’s) and rainy here this week. Are you still warm down your way in the bogs?
It was warm today, Kathy, but rain and a temporary chill are on the way, then back to the low 70s for a couple of days. The end of the week looks like it will be beautiful here. 🙂
Those are great Robin!
You are one of the few people I’ve known who have seen that rainbow efect in the sky and accurately refer to it as a “sun dog”. Cool!
Nice getting with the jet contrails too. 🙂
Thank you so much, Phil. And thank you for stopping by and commenting. I appreciate it. 🙂
It’s looking gorgeous there right now! I miss the autumn in the USA!
This is my favorite time of year, Cathy. 🙂
Mine too!
Is it starting to cool off there, Robin? Today was very warm, but a cool front is blowing in and tomorrow will only be up to around 70. I love that autumn is just beginning. I’m looking forward to your fall pictures.
It’s quite cool here now, Susan. It was in the 30s this morning, high in the 60s this afternoon. My favorite kind of weather. 🙂
The Towpath Trail photo is right down my path and I just love it! Awesome sun dog and I haven’t seen and photographed a sun dog for about two years. Always enjoy fire captures and yours is splendid. Autumn on the way!
Thank you, Anna. I’m excited about autumn too. 🙂
