Walking on clouds

A pessimist sees only the dark side of the clouds, and mopes; a philosopher sees both sides, and shrugs; an optimist doesn’t see the clouds at all — he’s walking on them.

~ Leonard Louis Levinson

We had a lovely variety of clouds yesterday afternoon, and I was fortunate enough to be able to sit on the patio and watch as they drifted by.  I can’t think of a better way to spend part a summer day.

I went swimming, took several walks, and we spent the evening out on the water, watching the play of light and shadow as the sun set.  Bats flew overhead, and the Great Horned Owl who lives in the woods made his presence known with his whoo-whoo-whoooo.

M and I camped out on the porch last night, falling asleep to the night noises.  It was blissful.  Probably the best sleep I’ve had in ages.

Today has been the almost perfect summer day.  Warm, but not overly so, with a nice breeze, and none of the humidity typical of this time of year.  There seem to be dragonflies and damselflies everywhere.  Around the pond, in the meadows, and back in the woods.  I think they have been enjoying this day as much as I have.

We’ve had a good deal of rain over the past few days, and that’s perked up everything.  It looks like a jungle of green in the woods.

I reckon that’s it from the Bogs for today.  Thanks for stopping by.  I’m headed outside to pedal around the pond.  You’re welcome to join me.  The rowboat is available, too, in case you’d rather row.

May you have a joyous day, a wonder-filled evening, and a peaceful night.

Look at your feet.  You are standing in the sky.  When we think of the sky, we tend to look up, but the sky actually begins at the earth.

  1. Camping out on the porch sounds like fun–way better than swimming with snakes! LOL At any rate, LOVE the cloud photos and the yellow flower toward the end of this post. Enjoy your time pond-pedal!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

      Thank you, Kathy. 🙂

Swimming with snakes is not so bad. Usually I don’t see them so I pretend they’re not there. I banish the snapping turtles the same way. Out of sight, out of mind. 😀

  2. Wow!!! Your photos of the clouds are breathtaking! I love the quote!

  3. row, row, row your boat…that would be a nice way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.

    • Robin says:

It certainly is, Joss. Someday I will buy a parasol so I can sit in the rowboat and pretend to be someone from the past. 🙂

  4. Kathy says:

I like the idea of walking on clouds, Robin. And on sleeping on porches. Lucky you. The Great Horned Owl probably even approved. Maybe he was saying, “Who, who, who is sleeping on the porch?” Little joke.

Incredibly shots. I love being able to see what others see, when they have the talent to share it with us.

Your cloud pictures are wonderful … looks like we both had clouds of varying kinds on our minds this weekend (mine were the techie kind).

    • Robin says:

      Thank you, Bearyweather. 🙂

I haven’t used a techie kind of cloud yet. I’ll get there eventually, I’m sure. That’s usually the way with these things.

Gorgeous photo and great quote to start off a Monday morning.

  8. Who needs tv, when there are clouds to watch…and walk on.
Just beautiful. Standing in the Sky… 🙂

And the clouds pics seem to match the mood of your day. 🙂

I love watching the clouds pass by. Sounds like a wonderful afternoon and evening. How long did you sleep outside? I think the mosquitos would wake me up!

What a great variety of clouds!

Love the first quote … and the variety of silver linings you’ve caught here. 🙂

  13. I love looking at the clouds. So much potential in clouds. Thanks for making me think about the sky starting under my own two feet. Great image.

    • Robin says:

You’re welcome, Adela. And thank you. 🙂

I like that: “So much potential in clouds.” How true, especially during a drought.

  14. Val says:

Great photos, Robin. I love the way you manage to capture the colours so well. And I can see forms in the clouds. Some people shoot sky photos in such a way that they’re atmospheric but leave out any sort of creativity from the observer. You’re different – you get it all! 🙂

  15. Love those fluffy clouds….but MY favorite is that pretty orange flower 🙂

  16. You did have some wonderful clouds! (and unfair you have an owl, too!)
Think I’ll take the rowboat – it will be like rowing through the sky.

I’ve wanted to camp out on our porch too. We’ve yet to do it. Maybe come fall.

  18. Dana says:

Sleeping out on the porch sounds divine, Robin! (As does the thought of even *having* a porch to camp on!) Loved all of the cloud photos. It made me feel like I was lying down in the grass, looking up at the sky, and watching the day drift by. Bliss. 🙂
