Blue Monday

Feather in blue

A long time ago, back near the beginning of my official (under my own name and not a pseudonym) blogging days, I wrote a post about Blue Monday.  We were temporarily living in Sabbaticalville (West Chester, Pennsylvania) at the time, and apparently I was obsessed with posting about laundry.  That obsession, thankfully mild, has continued throughout the years, but this is not a post about laundry.

Processed in Photoshop & Picknik to add the watery-wavy effect.

It so happens I am doing laundry today, because I’m in the habit of doing a lot of laundry on Mondays.  This post, however, is not (as previously mentioned) about laundry, but about experimenting with my camera.  Last Friday when I went out for my walk I decided to take a series of photos with the white balance set to tungsten.  Just for fun.  I love the color blue (although it is not my #1 favorite, it’s close), and I particularly like the shade of cobalt blue that usually results when I use the tungsten setting (also known as “incandescent” on some digital cameras).

X reflected

What I found particularly interesting is the way the reflections in water look somewhat similar to shots I took of tree branches against the sky.

Had the pond been still that day, you might not be able to tell the difference between the reflections and the… what would you call them?… non-reflections.

Alas, the steady breeze kept the pond wavy (which is also, I think, interesting in its own way).

It is sunny and warm (47 degrees) here in the Bogs today with snow in the forecast tomorrow.  Business as usual for this particular winter.

I left the camera behind when I went out for my walk today.  I was in the mood for a Wordless Walk.  I have to tell you, if you’ve never tried it, you should.  It’s wonderful.  The mind slows down with the pace and I have found my senses are heightened as a result.

Moon in a lighter shade of blue.

My wordless walk seems to have left me wordless when it comes to the rest of this blog post so I will wrap things up here.  Thank you for stopping by.  Feel free to head outside and take your own wordless walk around the pond.  The birds are chatty and happy today so they can do all the talking and singing for you as you walk slowly and absorb the beauty of being outdoors.

      Thanks, Ellen. 🙂

I did change my socks, finally. lol! I got tired of seeing the same old socks day after day after day. I might show up barefoot one of these days.

barefoot? make sure to write a warning “Parental guidance” that day LOL

I love walking barefoot!!! I´m so used to that sometimes I forget I´m not wearing shoes and I take the elevator to open the door on the ground floor and people in the building kind of stare at me.

The blue shots are awesome, but the last one is what made the post. Oh – and I love stopping by here each day, so thanks for sharing your gift.

  13. Every walk I take (when I’m alone) is a wordless walk – it’s wonderful!! It really clears my head, it’s sort of like my “reset” button – and then I’m ready to face the rest of the day! 🙂 I love your experiments you do with your photos – what fun would digital photography BE if we couldn’t play around with our images?? 😉

      Thanks, Holly. 🙂

I think that’s why I enjoy digital photography so much. There doesn’t seem to be a limit to what you can do with it either in camera or with post processing.

  17. Since blue is my bestest and favoritest color in the whole wide world, this post is making my Thursday morning start out just right! (yes, I am just catching up with my Monday emails on Thursday!)

    • Robin says:

Thank you, Cyndi. I’m glad you enjoyed the blues. 😀

I’m way behind on emails, too. I feel like I’m a million years behind, but I figure I’ll just slowly keep working my way through the past and someday I might get caught up.
