Blue Monday

A long time ago, back near the beginning of my official (under my own name and not a pseudonym) blogging days, I wrote a post about Blue Monday.  We were temporarily living in Sabbaticalville (West Chester, Pennsylvania) at the time, and apparently I was obsessed with posting about laundry.  That obsession, thankfully mild, has continued throughout the years, but this is not a post about laundry.

It so happens I am doing laundry today, because I’m in the habit of doing a lot of laundry on Mondays.  This post, however, is not (as previously mentioned) about laundry, but about experimenting with my camera.  Last Friday when I went out for my walk I decided to take a series of photos with the white balance set to tungsten.  Just for fun.  I love the color blue (although it is not my #1 favorite, it’s close), and I particularly like the shade of cobalt blue that usually results when I use the tungsten setting (also known as “incandescent” on some digital cameras).

What I found particularly interesting is the way the reflections in water look somewhat similar to shots I took of tree branches against the sky.

Had the pond been still that day, you might not be able to tell the difference between the reflections and the… what would you call them?… non-reflections.

Alas, the steady breeze kept the pond wavy (which is also, I think, interesting in its own way).

It is sunny and warm (47 degrees) here in the Bogs today with snow in the forecast tomorrow.  Business as usual for this particular winter.

I left the camera behind when I went out for my walk today.  I was in the mood for a Wordless Walk.  I have to tell you, if you’ve never tried it, you should.  It’s wonderful.  The mind slows down with the pace and I have found my senses are heightened as a result.
