A body in motion

Colorful stars in the sky

According to Newton’s First Law of Motion, a body in motion will remain in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force.

I’m not sure I’m moving in a straight line.  In fact, I’m almost positive I’m not.  But I am in motion and following the path wherever it leads.

Those were my thoughts after I finished my yoga practice this morning.  It is day 44 of my year-long commitments, and I feel as though I’ve been put in motion, and each step leads almost effortlessly to the next.  I qualified that sentence with “almost” because there have been some uphill climbs and stumbles.  But today it feels simple and easy.  (No, that is not redundant.  There are many things in life that are simple.  If you want to quit smoking, then just quit.  It’s that simple.  It is not, however, easy.  Ask anyone who has quit.)

We are having an amazing day here in the Bogs.  Sunny.  Warm.  A what-am-I-doing-indoors? kind of day.

I haven’t spent too much of the day indoors.  I came inside to quickly put together this blog post.  Otherwise, I’ve been out and about, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

I almost forgot.  I also went indoors to vote.  There were issues on the ballot here in Ohio that I’m hoping my vote will help in the manner I’m hoping they will go.  Was that mysterious enough for you?  I rarely bring up politics or my political views here on Ye Olde Blogge, and it’s best I stick with that policy.  It keeps the trolls hidden in the shadows under the bridges where they belong.

Well, it’s time for me to go back outside.  Rumor has it a cold front will be arriving tomorrow night or Thursday.  There is even a hint of snow in the forecast for Friday.  I’m going to enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.

This morning's view of the pond

Thank you for visiting with me in the Bogs today.  If you need me, I’ll be out in the garden tending to the asparagus.  I’m trying to figure out when to cut down the fronds.  There are differences in opinion regarding this action.  The Ohio State University Extension fact sheet on growing asparagus recommends leaving the fern growth intact over the winter because they help to keep the soil temperature cooler which will prevent the early emergence of spears in the spring when the possibility of frost still exists.  The first week in April is the time to cut them down in central Ohio.  I’m guessing it should be a week or two later in northern Ohio where it is cooler, longer.  The other school of thought is to cut them down in the fall to get rid of any asparagus beetles that might be hanging around.  Any advice from you experienced gardeners out there would be much appreciated.

(All of today’s photos except for the last were taken last week at the Holden Arboretum.)

  1. I admire you for taking on a commitment, and then sticking with it! I know how challenging that can be (which is why my b&w project is only once a week)!! Your fall color captures are beautiful, especially that yellow leaf – so perfect! I hear we’re in for cold weather, too – I don’t mind the cold, I just don’t want a ton of snow and ice!

  2. With a day like this I think know that I’d be outdoors too, making the most of what nature has to offer… Beautiful shots again Robin, and glad to hear your commitment is still heading in the right direction.. 🙂

Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your asparagus.

  4. The weather had been amazing here, as well. Sara’s been working in our garden, while I’ve been inside writing. We both went to vote, though. Hope you’re happy out with the asparagus.

  5. beautiful shots. I especially like that first one. Oh these glorious days of Fall when we can be outside before the cold of winter moves in.

Wonderful captures of those falling leaves. Isn’t the Holden Arboretum a glorious place for a photographer to visit? What with voting and a few other essentials today, I didn’t make it out there. Hopefully tomorrow!

I love your walks in the woods!! So different than here in Texas.

  8. Beautiful photos! The possibility for snow in the forecast made me wince- it’s a little early for that, thank you very much. And I think you are wise in regards to politics 🙂

Beautiful shots! My favorite one is the first one, of the sweet gum leaves and blue sky. Marvelous! 🙂

  10. Congratulations on your commitment. The tough part is not to let any roadblocks set you back. I notice that two weeks of not exercising and I can see the difference! Love your description: what-are-you-doing-indoors day!

  11. I was wondering about cutting the asparagus ferns, too, but that issue seems to have been taken out of my hands…the wild turkeys have nipped off each and evey one about six inches from the ground…they don’t eat them; the fronds are still lying there.
    Strange birds.

  17. Dana says:

I have to agree with Marianne above– has it already been 44 days of your new commitments?? The time is flying by, and I’m glad that today’s practices felt effortless. You are heading in the right direction!
