Sad news

Reflections

I’ve been putting off this post, not wanting to mix the POST visit with some sad family news.

M’s stepmother died early in the morning on the second day of our trip.  She was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago, and went downhill fairly quick.  We had planned to stop and see her (and M’s father) on our way back.  That’s the usual order of things when we make these trips to visit with our families, and we didn’t know how close Dolly was to death when we planned and began our trip.

The viewing is tomorrow night.  The funeral is on Thursday.  We will be staying in Pennsylvania beyond the date we thought we would be going home.  I mention this because it will likely put an end to my participation in Post A Day.  Once we leave New Jersey, I will not have internet access unless we go out seeking free wi-fi.  I scheduled posts for the rest of this week before leaving home.  They will run through Saturday.  After that…  we’ll see.

Today M and I took a 9.4 mile bike ride on some of the country roads here in south Jersey.  Even on the back roads here there is more traffic than I’m used to seeing on our back country roads in the Bogs.  Not being used to what seems like a lot of traffic to me, it made me a little nervous at first, but I got over it enough that the ride was enjoyable.  It’s a beautiful day here.  Sunny, in the low 70s.  Perfect for biking or hiking.

That’s about it from me for a while.  I’ll be back again sometime next week.  In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the scheduled posts, and the vacation (if there is one) from new posts on my blog.  I know it’s tough to keep up with someone who is blogging every day, and Post A Day has made it tougher now that many of us are following quite a few folks who are posting every day.

Be kind, and have fun!  See you soon.  🙂

Thank you so much everyone for your condolences, good thoughts, and hugs. We’re on the other side of the funeral which is always something of the relief. Not an ending to the grief, but at least a closure of sorts.

I caught a bit of free wi-fi and just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate your comments, your love, your hugs, and your wonderful words of comfort. Thank you. 🙂

  33. Christine Grote says:

Sorry for your loss. How sad that you weren’t able to get there in time. So close. If there is anything I can help with to keep your post-a-day commitment, let me know. I gave it up after six months and haven’t looked back. I post every week day and that has helped out immensely with all the traveling we do.

    Thinking of you.
