The last dragonfly

Green dragonfly
I cannot say for sure that this is the last dragonfly of the season, but I suspect we won’t see too many more of them. This is the first one I’ve seen in a couple of weeks. Dragonflies are cold blooded and probably didn’t care much for the gray, cooler weather we had before this wonderful warm-up.
Jalapeno
I’ve been out in the garden today, still working on getting it ready for winter. It’s starting to look pretty good, but there is lots of work to be done yet.
Chiles
The chiles did really well this year. I have more than I need. I don’t think I’ll plant them next year unless I somehow use up all that I dry this year.
Asparagus "berries"
My nemesis, the asparagus bed, is a mess. As usual. Someday I will have it entirely cleaned up, with mulch and straw laid down to protect it over the winter months. I hope that someday is soon.
That’s it from the Bogs for today. Short and sweet. Well, maybe not so sweet, but definitely short. 🙂

Great shot of the dragonfly. He certainly does blend in with his background. I watched a beautiful blue one through binoculars when i was in Tucson. It never came close enough for me to photograph.

The pond looks lovely today, and so do the chiles. We harvested ours yesterday, which was a good thing. It froze here last night (27 degrees F) and has snowed a little today. Good luck with the asparagus bed! 🙂

neat that you spotted that dragonfly. We had very few of them here this year as opposed to the great host we usually have. Summer was just way too cool for them. they are such a beautiful insect. I missed them this year. a lot.

We had a great host of them this year, more so than usual. This must have been a good summer for dragonflies and damselflies in the Bogs. 🙂

The Last Dragonfly had my heart in my mouth, Robin, sounded like a story, where there was only one left… and my mind was already filing in the details, he was alone, no mate, she’d flitted off with another, leaving him heartbroken, something unknown killed off all the rest… and he was left, to bemoan his fate, wandering aimlessly was it really too late? …. Um…well, probably not, … 😀 … Just taking a few moments to drink in the photo of the pond…before coming back to earth, and staring out at the wet day here in Britain, I’ve re-stocked the bird table with seed, broken up peanuts and dried meal-worms, oh and the sunflower hearts… and ex has just informed me that the grey squirrel is dining a` la carte… in the rain… It’s a jungle out there, … xPenx
I love the way a simple title results in a story from you, LadyP. I do feel sad for that poor dragonfly. Perhaps there is still a mate for him somewhere in the world and he’ll have to go on a long journey to find her. 🙂
Would you believe that my Thai chillies are covered in blooms? Too bad the brief stretch of warm weather won’t be enough to ripen them…

Wow, you still have lots of “green” … my world turned an orangy-brown this week when the strong winds knocked all the leaves down. An early hard frost hit most of the ground vegetation 3 weeks ago including our gardens). It is warm, though … and I have seen a few dragonflies myself.
It is still pretty green here, Bearyweather, but I don’t think it will last much longer…

What happens to the dragonflies? Do they die in winter? I ‘m wondering the same thing about hummingbirds. Where do they go when it gets cold? Do they migrate? I need to look this up.

No, they are not edible. They’re actually seeds, and I’ve read that they’re poisonous.
