333: Sun and showersPosted: August 22, 2011 Filed under: 365 Life in the Bogs Challenge, Adventures in Life, Air, Earth, Fire, home, nature, Photography, pond, Spirit, Summer, Walking, water, weather | Tags: nature, Photography, postaday2011, rain, rainbow, storms, weather 42 Comments
I feel like I should be playing the lottery or something today. Or at least doing something with the number 3. Day 333 of my outdoor commitment. Where did the time go?
Yesterday evening we had some heavy rain with sunshine. It was a lovely thing to behold.
Especially when the rainbows appeared.
The true harvest of my life is intangible — a little star dust caught, a portion of the rainbow I have clutched.
~ Henry David Thoreau
The light was amazing.
Sometimes it’s important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it’s essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow.
~ Douglas Pagels
Today’s Outdoor Adventures
I took a slow walk around the pond today. I spent most of my time looking up, admiring the clouds and sky.
We are having a magnificent day here in the Bogs. It’s relatively cool, breezy, and the air smells fresh and clean after yesterday’s rain showers.
It feels like autumn. I half way expected to see the leaves on the trees start to change color while I was out on my walk.
Instead, it looks as though the Green Man walked through the area once again.
The greens are different now then they were during our first visit from the Green Man. They are deeper and darker this late in the summer season.
Green how I want you green. Green wind. Green branches.
~ Federico Garcia Lorca
This is not the kind of day to spend indoors. This would be a great day for hiking in the woods or taking a long bike ride.
Having finished up some outdoor chores, it’s time to go out and play. Or sit and watch the clouds go by.
Or maybe take a walk back to the woods to see the fairy stump. Perhaps the fairies will be home this time.
It’s the kind of day that belongs on a postcard – I am LOVING this lower humidity!! Beautiful rainbow capture!! 🙂
I agree, Holly. I love this kind of weather. It’s very energizing. 🙂
I know what you mean – the drier air got here overnight, and tonight is supposed to be about 55…
I love all your pictures, but the one looking across the pond, towards the house (third from the last) is my favorite…maybe its the clouds, reflected in the pond….
Thank you, Marie. 🙂
The golden glow in the first photos looks really cool!
Thanks, Christine. It was amazing light. 🙂
The rainbows are amazing, as are the clouds reflected in the pond! What lovely weather we’ve had here in Kentucky today, as well. Happy Monday————-
Thanks, Kathy. 🙂
I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying better weather too. Happy Tuesday!
Beautiful photos! I especially like the first one with the coloring. Time escapes us easily.
Thank you, Martina. 🙂
love that quote about choosing which colour to slide down on the rainbow!
Me too, Kel. I think I’m going to choose green today. 🙂
these are beautiful & well captured photos, i love the skies in all of them
but those first few, the light is wonderul & so is the rain
Thank you, Chloe. 🙂
It was a perfect late summer day yesterday after a day of storms here in NY. Your photos show how nature clears the heat and humidity into a clear day of puffy clouds and air that feels good to our lungs.
Thanks, Scott. 🙂
Mother Nature is very good at clearing the air.
Beautiful angles and insights. :-!
Thank you, Elizabeth. 🙂
The first shot took my breath away!! I love it!
Thank you, Mimo. 🙂
Light and color and rainbows, oh my!
I’ve been asking myself that very same question recenty – where did the time go? I’ll be so sad for summer to leave us!
I’m looking forward to autumn, Karma, but have to admit that I enjoyed and appreciated this summer more than past summers. 🙂
Loved the rainbow photo’s Robin, (made me want to go chasing after the Rainbows end…) … and love the shade of light thro’ sun and rain mixture. from Mother Natures own palette and special colour blend. … The cloud formation on the last photo? a small square cloud?… Never!! 😉 xPenx
Thank you, Pen. 🙂
I hadn’t even noticed the square cloud. Now that’s different.
A lovely day to watch the clouds! A beautiful walk, Robin.
Thank you, Ted. 🙂
You certainly did capture some simply stunning golden light in the post rainbow shot, and some amazing.. And who doesn’t love a scene like your pond, when it’s backed up by that wonderful sky..
Thank you, Brian. 🙂
Love the images you have today, especially the pontoon in the rain.
Thank you, Cwithnueyes. 🙂
Wow – what beautiful photos of sky, light, rainbows, clouds, rain – what a glorious day!
Thanks, Carla. 🙂
So beautiful! Love the light in the first one.
Did you ever notice that the colors in a double rainbow are reversed?
I had not noticed that, Michaela! How interesting. 🙂
I’m in love with these pictures, especially the ones with the rainbow. Magical post!
Thank you, Belen. 🙂
I’ve got a post coming about early signs of autumn on Monday.
We Ohio women must be on the same brain wave.
Must be, Christine. Seems we’re seeing signs of the autumn to come. 🙂
Really digging the mood of that first pic!
Thanks, Derrick. I wish I could send some of that rain your way. I know ya’all need it.
I love the light in the yellow-toned pics. They feel very old world.
Thank you, Dana. 🙂
