237: A brief appearance

The sun, something I wasn’t sure existed anymore, made some brief appearances for a few hours today as the fog lifted and clouds drifted in and out.  It not only brightened the world for a little while, it lifted my spirits.

Little suns sprouting from the earth. Flower photos taken at Longwood Gardens during my May 5th visit.

The rain will be returning.  Thunderstorms are headed this way as I type.  But at least I had a little time to absorb some sunlight and increase my vitamin D levels.  My outdoor time was spent sitting on the porch doing just that.  Soak it all in.

Today's view of the pond while there was some blue sky to be seen.

M and I went to Cleveland last night to see/hear Cake in concert.  We’re not generally in the habit of following a particular band around (click here for our last Cake experience), but the price was right, the date was good, we like the band and had a great time the last time we saw them, and Cleveland isn’t that far away.  We met up with a friend who is in Cleveland this week, had dinner with him, and then he joined us as we enjoyed an evening with Cake who, so they say, were there to serve us.

Short post for today.  I’m in the homestretch on this proofreading gig and hope to finish this afternoon or evening.  Yay!

Pleeeeeaaaaaaaasssssse send some of that sunshine to Massachusetts! If it rains much more I’ll be forced to gather the animals in twos…

  2. I don’t think there is such an object as a sun. It’s starting to affect everyone here. I’m going to have to resort to taking photos inside–boo! The blue sky in your pond photo is uplifting.

The sun here keeps coming and going, I don’t think it knows where it lives. I love those yellow flowers – they vibrate every time I look at them! 🙂

  4. Marianne says:

Wow. Sounds like we are not the only ones getting drenched day after day.

The flowers are so pretty, Robin.

Glad you had a nice outing in Cleveland.

Those bright, cheerful, yellow flowers are the perfect shot for this post.

  6. Ditto that ‘sun’ thing down here in Rhode Island… My mother is visiting from Oklahoma, and thinks she’s going to freeze to death…

Marvelous yellow flower shots – they’ve got a funny name – starts with ‘O’. Blue-eyed Daisy is the common name, right? Or am I thinking of something else?

Thought I’d jump in here…these are African Daisies and their formal name is Osteospermum. Yes, funny name indeed. 🙂

I’ve never heard them called Blue-eyed Daisy.

Thanks, Tracy. It’s good to have blog friends who can identify the flowers. I often forget to take photos of the name tags (or can’t find the name tag when I do remember to look for it). 🙂

      Thank you, Marie. 🙂

I hope it warms up for you and your mother. It hardly feels like spring.

  7. What are the yellow flowers? They look a lot like my violet african daisies, but yellow. And they’re beautiful in the sun! If we go by the fact that your weather is a lot like mine, we should have sunshine here tomorrow. It hasn’t been raining, but it’s been overcast for about a week. I’m beginning to lose my mind!

    • Robin says:

      Thank you, SunsetSeaSoul. 🙂

And as you may have seen already, it turns out they are African daisies. Hope you get some sunshine soon.

    Stunning pics!

And it sounds like all you folks need to head west … we had a little rain here in Cali yesterday, but are supposed to have sun most of the next week.

With you there, soaking the sun when it decides to shine. Loved the little suns, marvelling at their symmetry and their ability to lift the spirits just by looking at them. Maybe a bit like your night out, sounds wonderful Robin. xPenx

That flower is like a magical sun in itself.

  11. Team Oyeniyi says:

It is freezing here – at least you have the thoughts of summer on the way!

  12. We still have no sun here in Kentucky. But goodness, the floweres are stunningly sunny!

Bright sunny flowers! Stunning and so cheerful! I’m trying to tank up on Vitamin D from the sun, too, whenever it peeks through the fog and drizzle. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve been to a concert, Cake sounds like a great group and I’m glad you had a nice time. Nothing is better than live music, especially under the stars!

    • Robin says:

      Thank you, Barbara. 🙂

I thought of you (and your post on Vitamin D) while I was out there gathering sunlight. It’s difficult to keep those levels up when there is no sun.

  14. Bo Mackison says:

Ahh, so nice when the sun shines. Amazing how spirit lifting those rays of sunlight are…

  15. Anna says:

LOL I know what you mean about the sunshine. We’re into our 2nd day of rain and muggy. Beautiful flower shots!

  16. Dana says:

I love how you photographed the flowers to look like mini suns! So beautiful!! We are getting sunshine in brief stints here in Victoria, too, but I really feel ready for a NICE LONG STRETCH of warm, sunny weather! 🙂
