I decided I wanted to learn how to bellydance so I got out the bellydancing video I bought a few years ago, a video I’d only bothered to take out of the box once or twice.
I remember now that bellydancing works muscles I never knew I could use, much less use enough to make them sore. Since the day after the day after the exercise is always the worst, tomorrow may find me barely able to move.
I briefly mentioned my 50 Goals Project (wherein I attempt to achieve 50 things in my 50th year on the planet) in a previous post a few days ago. One of my 50 Goals is to learn to dance, any dance. I’m not sure, though, that bellydancing is the practical way to go.
You see, M the Younger and his fiancee are getting married this year (in June). It would be nice to be able to dance at the reception (other than the hug and sway variety of dancing). You know, dance in a way that looks like I know what I’m doing. Bellydancing at the reception is NOT an option. Not even a consideration.
Perhaps the bellydancing will loosen me up enough that I’ll be willing to go to dance lessons. I’m pretty sure M would go, too. And if not, well, there’s always the hug and sway type of dance.
It’s snowing here today. The snow follows a snow-ice-rain pattern we’ve been having all winter. Usually after the snow-ice-rain, one on top of the other, we get lake-effect snows. No winter watches or warnings in effect yet so it’s not likely to be more than a few inches.
no bellydancing at the wedding
what, they don’t want a bollywood wedding!?!
i’ve seen a couple of movies about indian weddings and they have a ball with their dancing
one of the most popular classes at the college i used to work at is belly-dancing, grew from 1 to 3 levels in less than 12 months!
it’s VERY good for strengthening core muscles
but methinks would be more fun in a group class
You and M the Elder should take a ballroom dancing class in your town. I’m sure you can find one.
You make me laugh. “NOT an option.” You must’ve known your friendly group of nutters would otherwise comment that they wanted to see you get your bellydance on at the wedding.
Yes, good for loosening up to learn other dances, but yes, glad to hear that belly dancing at the reception is not an option. Perhaps salsa, though. That would be impressive. 8)
