Heh.

Perhaps it’s time I improved my vocabulary.

The Alchemist

I told my English Nutter friend that I’d do a short review of the books I read this year. I’m not particularly good at book reviews, but I’ll give it a try.

Yesterday I finished reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

The Alchemist is the story of a young shepherd searching for his Personal Legend. He encounters numerous obstacles along the way forcing him to choose between continuing on his quest or giving up and settling for life as it is. I found it to be a joy to read, and the story carried me along so quickly that it wasn’t long before I finished the book.

I like the message of the book which, I think, is to follow your dream (or Personal Legend) because those who settle and don’t follow their dream lose their passion for life.

When you pursue your personal legend the universe will conspire with you to make it happen.

It was a good book to start off the new year. It’s a parable about dreams, perseverance, and becoming attuned to the Soul of the World (or your own heart). The book was a reminder that it’s worth it to work one’s way through or past the obstacles life throws at us in order to reach our goals/dreams.

The only thing I didn’t care for about the book were the religious overtones. I’m not a particularly religious person. Spiritual, yes. Religious, no. Otherwise, it was an enjoyable read.

In other news…

It’s been sunny and bright here today. It’s still sunny, but there must be clouds around somewhere because it’s also snowing. We’re under another winter storm warning until sometime tomorrow.

Following the old-time weather predictions, I guess this means February will be a sunny and snowy month.
