Winter is here

It may not be officially winter until the solstice, but the weather has certainly taken a turn towards winter.

Saturday was a gorgeous day. Clear, sunny, temperature in the 20’s and no wind. Perfect hiking weather. M and I took advantage of it and went for a hike on the small bit of the Buckeye Trail which runs through our neighborhood (“neighborhood” being a very broad term since we’re out in the country and the neighborhood stretches a long way).

We hiked about 2 miles in 40 minutes. It was a good, brisk walk. Very invigorating.

The creeks, lakes, and ponds were all starting to freeze over. Our pond was completely covered with a thin layer of ice.

It snowed Saturday night. The snow changed over to rain, and it rained all day yesterday. Last night the second storm rolled in, bringing snow and some major winds (25-35 mph, gusting up to 50 mph). The wind has been so loud that it kept me awake a good part of the night.

We’re supposed to get about 4 inches of snow over the next two days. I hope it sticks. I want to go out and enjoy the sledding hill.
