Dreaming

Fairy tale woods

Fairy tale woods

life is a garden,
not a road

we enter and exit
through the same gate

wandering,
where we go matters less
than what we notice.

Indistinct

Indistinct

I was going to take you cross-country skiing today.  We would have had to travel back a couple of days, just to Sunday when M and I went up to Chapin Forest Reservation.  I took my little toy camera along on the trip and some of the photos are… interesting.  Different from my usual.  I will show them to you another day.

Melting snow swirls on ice

Melting snow swirls on ice

As I was sorting through the photos from Sunday, Monday, and today, I decided I’d rather take you on a walk around the pond with me.  It’s incredibly warm outside today.  No bundling up necessary, although I would recommend a jacket or sweatshirt and some boots.  An umbrella or rain coat might come in handy, too.  It’s been raining off and on all day.  Most of the snow and ice are gone now, and the ground is soggy.

Shadow prints

The first few reflection images are from yesterday when the surface of the pond was still icy enough to hold snow.  The thaw creates an artwork all its own with little or no help from me.  (I flipped the photos, and tweaked the contrast and colors.)

Today

Today

As you can see from the above photo, the thawing of the pond seems to be almost complete.  But if you look closely, you’ll find there are still some large chunks of ice around the edges.

We’re getting a new dishwasher here at Breezy Acres.  I don’t know why we bother to call a repairman when it comes to a broken dishwasher.  Inevitably, the repair costs more than a new dishwasher.  Planned obsolescence wins again.

He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.

I am in an odd mood lately.  I don’t know how to describe it.  Perhaps it’s just the oddness of winter, going back and forth between cold and warmth, making me feel as if I’m in limbo or half asleep.

Bubbles and crackles

Bubbles and crackles

You have wakened not out of sleep, but into a prior dream, and that dream lies within another, and so on, to infinity, which is the number of grains of sand.  The path that you are to take is endless, and you will die before you have truly awakened.

~ Jorge Luis Borges

I think that’s about it from me and from the Bogs for today.  It will be warm again tomorrow, and then winter will return.  We might even be able to go skiing again by the weekend.

Thank you so much for your visits and comments.  Hello and welcome to my new visitors.  As you may have noticed, I am once again far behind here, there, and everywhere.  Hopefully I’ll catch up soon, or at least clear things out enough to start from now.  If I haven’t been by to see you lately, I’ll be there soon.  I promise.

I’m so glad you went with the beautiful dreamy photos when you are feeling in a sleepy mood Robin. You carried me right along on the dream with you. :)

  3. Okay, not only are the photographs lovely, the names are beautiful! How do you DO that? :)

    • Robin says:

      Thank you, Colleen. :)
Most of the time, I don’t bother with names or captions for my photos because I struggle with naming things. My sons are lucky THEY have names. lol! I’m not even good at coming up with descriptive names to use on the blog for friends and family. Instead, they are letters. M., C., B., M., and M. (Too many M’s in my family!) This is my long way of saying thank you very much for the compliment regarding the names/captions on my photos. I have to work hard at that so I appreciate it when someone likes them. :D

Textures. That’s what leaps out at me while looking at these, Robin. Beautiful.

  5. What an amazing variation in weather you have!…it seems that the seasons there in Ohio are bouncing back and forth, back and forth every few days….perfect for a photographer!…lots of skills needed too! Continuing appreciations for your wonderful photos of ice!

    • Robin says:

      Thank you, Kathy (PP). :)
Our weather usually isn’t like this. A typical winter here in the Bogs is cold with layers and layers of snow and ice. Climate change, so they say, is responsible for the way winter has been blowing warm and cold. To be honest, I prefer a typical winter over all this changing back and forth. Ah well. I will learn to appreciate the new normal eventually.

Very dream-like indeed. I love this post…it kind of leads the reader around in a fractured yet connected way…very much like a dream.

    This quote caught my attention:
    life is a garden,
    not a road

    we enter and exit
    through the same gate

    wandering,
    where we go matters less
    than what we notice.
