1-800-I’M-SICK

My blog, like a lot of blogs, has been getting traffic via search engines. There are a lot of folks out there searching for the 1-800 number used to call off from work at Wal-Mart. I mention the number in one of my posts (from back in the days when I worked for Wally World), but I never posted the entire number.

As a courtesy to those who end up here looking for the phone number, here it is:

1-800-775-5944

Good luck.

    You’re welcome. :)

Wally World has its down sides, that’s for sure. I hope you were able to get your schedule straightened out.

Thanks! I couldn’t find that number anywhere! I appreciate it.

  6. 2007 July 20

I find this whole thing hilarious. In that odd sort of way that things are funny.

  7. 2007 July 21

There is a kind of hilarity to it, in an odd sort of way.

Irony, too. But you might have had to work for Wal-Mart to appreciate that aspect of it.

Ahahaha, you are SUCH a lifesaver. I just moved and couldn’t find that blooming piece of paper anywhere, your site is the only one that I’ve found with the number on it. Well, obviously, I don’t think I’d be looking at your site if I found it already. Either way, it was a bit tedious! Thank you! I hate this blasted company!

  9. 2007 August 7

Glad to be of some help, Miki.

I’m not particularly fond of Wal-Mart either. But sometimes a job is a job, and all you can do is take what you can get.

I hope you find a better company to work for someday soon. :)

I don’t think it’s posted anywhere else online, Stacy. You’d think Wal-Mart would at least put it on their website. Strange of them not to.

thank you, blog author. my shift started at 7 AM today and I have the flu. i lost the little business card with the number quite a long time ago. and I’m still too young to have my drivers license, but that wont stop walmart from firing me… this is going to be my fourth sick day in 90 days.

Thanks I had the number wrote down but couldn’t find it. I actually called off since they didn’t get my schedule right for school. Sadly I’ll have to call my store tomorrow while I’m going to school since no one would pick up at the freaking store. I swear they aren’t the most flexible at schedules. Even though they claim they’re committed to giving you flexible schedules. I’ve been there for over two years and well they were supposed to cut me back to 30 hours a week for school, but they still fail too. Heck then they approve for me to have a day off and still schedule me.

So I’d like to give you a big kudos. I’m only trying to hold onto walmart until the reservation place opens in December right on campus. Sure doing park reservations might be boring but it can’t be any worse than being screwed over.

  16. 2007 October 8

Good luck, Eric. I hope all your plans work out. I’d rather do something boring than be screwed over by Wal-Mart.

  23. 2008 January 3

The managers won’t even ask for the confirmation number when you call out, and no one will be calling a doctor’s office if you smudge a one into a four days off on the note if they even ask for one. Not the best practice since it’s hourly pay but if you really are sick and need the time off it’ll do.

Haha, this is so messed up. This is literally the only site with this number. It’s funny because they give you the number on a little business card – not something suitable like a magnet or something for your fridge. I’m curious to find out whether this is true or not, but I was told by a co-worker that if you call off 2 days in a row, they will consider it as one incident. Anyone know?

  32. 2008 March 11

Debbie: 3 SCHEDULED days in a row counted as one incident when I was working for Wal-Mart. So, theoretically, if you’re scheduled Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (with Tuesday and Thursday off), you could call of Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and have it count as one incident. I mention that scenario because it’s the scheduling that’s important, not whether or not the 3 days actually fall all in a row (if that makes sense).

That was under the new attendance policy, but it has been over a year since I quit. It’s possible they’ve changed it again. Check with your personnel person. They should be able to tell you.

  33. 2008 March 12
    debbie permalink

Well, I had called of today and kind of wanted to tomorrow as well, but I worry that if I call tomorrow before I possibly call off, if that would give them some sort of reason to NOT consider it one incident, just to use against me. I have a bitch on an assistant manager who liked to wait until things pile up on people before taking action, and I don’t want her using this as some sort of ammunition.

God how I wish I could just quit right now.

Anyway, I’m glad SOMEONE is doing the right thing and making this number easily available.

  41. 2008 July 1

Walmart owes you. You could become a sounding board for Walmart employees.

  42. 2008 July 3

I may be doing Walmart a disservice here, Preston, since they don’t want to make it easy for their associates to call off from work.

  43. 2008 July 9

Wal-Mart is refusing to work around my college schedule. I got hired on at store #3608 in Madison, OH in March, during my hiring process and in my interview i told them i will need time off in the summer for school, and they told me it would not be a problem. Well when the time came and I filled out my availability adjustment they said I could not get those days off because I had no replacement in my dept., and I work third shift. So the past three weeks i have been doing school and work with little sleep inbetween, and today im swamped with homework, ive had four hours of sleep in the past 2 days and at this point could really give a shit less if wal-mart fires my ass for calling off b/c i cant take this shit anymore. Im putting that 800 number to good use tonight and I thank you for it

  44. 2008 July 10

Sounds like Wal-Mart is the villain to me, The Villain.

I hope you get some sleep.

  45. 2008 July 12

I have only been working at Walmart for about three weeks now and am already sick of it. I wouldn’t mind it so much if the person i work for in the Produce department wasn’t such a lazy bitch and she actually DID something or had a sense of humor. I like the job…liked the job. I can feel myself starting to dislike it more and more though. I don’t want to. This job makes me feel trapped. This was the only job that was available in my town. I am so tired of being tired…this job tuckers me out and I dont get much of a chance to rest. I am taking an online course and am currently behind in that because I am often too exhausted to focus on it when I have the chance… *sighs* maybe I am just not the working type… I am only taking this job to get me through the summer so I can have some money when I go back to college. I am a film and television major so…thats the kind of stuff I would rather be doing.

Perhaps I wont use the number today… but thank you for having it out there for me. That business card got lost quicker than anything else they gave me.

  46. 2008 July 12

    You’re welcome, DancingDan.

It’s hard to resist that sort of attitude at Walmart. I liked my job too, but it didn’t take long for the company to practically beat that out of me. They have a way of sucking the life and enjoyment right out of their associates, perhaps because it’s so easy to throw them away and get new ones. Kind of like the cheap stuff they sell.

I have called out sick there twice and been late twice. And today i called out sick again making it 3 times. Ive been working there a little over a month and a half. They havent talked to me about my absences but i still feel like an idiot. DOES anyone think the will fire me when i go in tomorrow or have to do coaching or whatever????????

  48. 2008 July 29

Bryan: Coaching is usually the next step. They should give you a verbal warning first, or at least that has it was when I worked for Walmart.

Yeah thats what the asbsence policy says too. I just hate missing work. I dont think they will even say anyhting but i hate missing work cause i feel like an asshole. It seems like wal mart has a really flexible policy on being absent. So u dont think they will do anything?

    Bryan:

Coaching is basically just the term Wal-mart uses for writing people up. First offense for minor things is usually a verbal, followed by a written, d-day, ect. Some things such as taking too many breaks in a shift is an automatic written, and not wrapping a pallet properly before using the pallet stacker is a d-day.

Anywho, thanks for the number, I wasn’t sure I could pull off driving in to the store and getting the number and 2 hours before my shift starts then driving home and calling in without raising suspicion. ;)

this blog and one other former wal-mart associates blogs are the only places i have seen the number. I needed to call out because of snow but if you are out because of the weather it is not counted against you at my store. I don’t know if it is for all of washington or we just have a cool manager. At least once a year our GM reminds us that weather call outs are approved we just want you safe. We didn’t realize it when we bought our house you have to go up a good steep hill anyway you leave.

I’ll bother with the confirmation number later when I wake up!

Wal-Mart probably wouldn’t be so bad if the people above you weren’t so swamped. They already have SO MANY different types of managers working all the time but you can barely get ahold of a single one. They need more, IMO!

Thanks alot! I would also say that the Wal-Mart experience is on a case by case basis. I definitely think that there are a ton of things that they need to adjust their policies on. We just had an insurance meeting for “open enrollment” and my Personnel Manager even admitted that the Wal-Mart insurance isn’t worth having. I just got married, me and my wife work at Wal-Mart and the only reason my wife and her son have insurance is because they get it from the State of Illinois. But that is just one of the MANY issues that Wal-Mart needs to fix.

    • 2009 November 4

      You’re welcome, Cortlin. :)

I agree about the Wal-Mart experience (being on a case by case basis). That said, with Wal-Mart being a major employer in the U.S., they really ought to do something about health insurance (if the government doesn’t get to it first).
